Citadel Chief Technology Officer and former Goldman Sachs Partner joins Motive’s Executive Leadership Team and Investment Committee in a move signaling a new phase of AI-driven transformation across financial services.

New York, May 6, 2026 – Motive Partners, a specialist private investment firm focused on financial technology and technology-enabled business services, today announced that Umesh Subramanian will join the firm as a Partner, a member of its Executive Leadership Team, and a member of its Growth & Buyout Investment Committee, effective July 1, 2026.

Widely regarded as one of the most experienced technology leaders in global finance, Subramanian’s move represents a rare shift of a sitting top-tier CTO from one of the world’s most sophisticated investment firms into private markets – underscoring a broader industry inflection point as AI moves from experimentation to full-scale deployment.

His appointment marks a defining moment for Motive, as Subramanian joins the ranks of the firm’s senior leadership team, reinforcing its position as a firm that attracts exceptional operators shaping the future of financial services.

In his new role, Subramanian will lead AI-driven transformation across Motive’s platform – working directly with portfolio companies, management teams, and the firm’s global network to embed advanced data architectures, applied AI, and modern engineering practices into the core of financial services businesses.

Subramanian joins from Citadel, where he serves as Chief Technology Officer and a member of the firm’s Portfolio Committee. At Citadel, he led the global engineering organization responsible for building and operating the firm’s research, trading, and risk management platforms – high-performance systems that underpin one of the most advanced investment firms in the world. During his tenure, he played a central role in advancing next-generation investment infrastructure, including the integration of AI, large-scale data systems, and cloud technologies across the firm.

Prior to Citadel, Subramanian spent over 13 years at Goldman Sachs, where he rose to Partner and Co-Head of the Technology Division – one of the most senior technology roles on Wall Street. There, he led global engineering organizations and helped modernize the firm’s technology stack, scale its data capabilities, and embed quantitative engineering at the core of its businesses.

Rob Heyvaert, Founder and Managing Partner of Motive Partners said: “Umesh is one of the defining technology leaders of his generation. We are witnessing a once-in-a-generation re-architecture of financial services, driven by AI, data, and modern infrastructure. Motive was purpose-built to operate at the center of that transformation – not just as an investor, but as a builder. The fact that Umesh is choosing to bring his experience and leadership to this platform is a further reflection of our vision and model.”
Heyvaert continued: “Moments like this are rare. Bringing in a leader of Umesh’s caliber – at the height of his career and directly from one of the most sophisticated technology environments in the world – is comparable to the most consequential talent inflections we’ve seen in our industry. It signals where the next decade of value creation in financial services will occur.”
Subramanian added: “We are at a pivotal moment where AI is fundamentally reshaping how financial institutions operate and compete. The opportunity now is not just to build systems, but to reimagine entire operating models. Motive’s integrated investor-operator-innovator approach creates a unique platform to do that at scale across companies and across the industry. I’m excited to join the firm at this moment and help drive the next phase of transformation.”

Subramanian brings a differentiated perspective, combining deep engineering leadership with direct exposure to investment decision-making and a track record of building platforms that sit at the core of global markets. He has also been an active voice in the evolution of AI in financial services, contributing to leading industry forums and helping shape how institutions adopt and scale advanced technologies

His appointment further strengthens Motive’s senior leadership team and reinforces its “investor-operator-innovator” model – pairing capital with experienced operators to drive transformation from within portfolio companies and across the broader ecosystem.
